ULTHA – 'Pain Cleanses Every Doubt'

ULTHA's debut record features four epic songs of dark, moody Black Metal somewhere between the traditional Scandinavian school and a more contemporary US-Black Metal approach. “Pain Cleanses Every Doubt” is for fans of Ash Borer, Xasthur, Leviathan, Christicide, Blut Aus Nord and Watain. The four songs often vary in speed and mood, yet always functioning as one big entity. A constant feel of urging darkness is present. This manifests in the omnipresent melodies which lure the listener in and also in the sophisticated, metaphor ridden lyrics about melancholia, depression, doubt and anti-religious believes. The record was recorded in the bands rehearsal space only a few months after the band's initial first rehearsal. There is a fine balance of a cold, rough feel to a full and heavy sound, embodied in a very mature songwriting for such a young band.

ULTHAs Debutalbum bringt vier epische, dunkle Black Metals Songs die zwischen den Eckpfeilern des traditionellen scandvischen Sounds und einem eher modernen amerikanischen Ansatzes ihren eigenen Sound finden. “Pain Cleanses Every Doubt” ist für alle, die etwas mit Ash Borer, Xasthur, Leviathan, Christicide, Blut Aus Nord und Watain anfangen können.
Die vier Songs wechseln oft in Geschwindigkeit und Gefühl, wirken dabei aber stets wie eine große Einheit. Ein Gefühl der Dunkelheit schwingt konstant mit. Dies manifestiert sich in den fesselnden Melodien und Harmonien ebenso wie in den ausgereiften, von Metaphern gespickten Texten über Melancholie, Depression, Zweifel und religiöser Kritik. Das Album wurde im Proberaum der Band aufgenommen, nur wenige Monate nach der ersten gemeinsamen Probe. Es zeigt eine feine Balance zwischen einer kalten, rauhen Grundstimmung und einem vollen und brachialen Sound, verkörpert in einem fortgeschrittenem Songwriting für eine Band die erst so kurz zusammen spielt.
